The New Britannia Theatre was established in 2010 by Matt Henry and Gabriel Vick, two actors with many West End show credits between them, including Avenue Q, The Lion King, A Little Night Music, La Cage Aux Follies, and The Harder They Come.

Matt & Gabe had long been discussing the idea of finding a small fringe venue where they could give other actors, writers and directors a risk-free platform to workshop, rehearse and produce new work. When the ideal space became available above the much-loved Britannia pub nestled on the edge of Hackney’s Victoria Park, the New Britannia Theatre was born.

The New Britannia Theatre opened its doors in Dec 2010 with  ‘The Twelve Acts of Christmas Cabaret’, a fundraising event featuring a cast of popular contemporary West End performers.

Along with nurturing new musical theatre and dramatic work, future productions will also include cabaret-style productions of musical theatre favourites and special events geared to a family audience
